Car rental with children
Planning a Trip with Kids in a Rented Car Abroad?
Here are Some Essential Tips Before Booking!
Car Size
During your travel, it's crucial to ensure the vehicle is spacious and comfortable for everyone, especially for Israeli families that often have several children. Also, consider the size of the luggage you'll be bringing. Choose a car well in advance that can accommodate all your gear and provides ample space for the kids to play and enjoy during the journey.
Car Cleanliness
Remember to return the car clean to the rental station. Therefore, it's wise to keep garbage bags handy to collect any trash accumulated during the trip. Returning a dirty car means the rental company will clean it and charge you an additional fee for this service.
Games and Activities
It's highly advisable to bring along games and anything else that can entertain the children while traveling. Even if you didn't pack games, you could be creative and think of other activities for the road - like identifying songs, spotting traffic signs and lights, finding objects based on letters or car colors, etc. These are particularly engaging for young children.
Baby Seats and Child Booster Seats
It's recommended to reserve baby seats, child seats, or boosters in advance (from Israel) since each station has a limited stock, and demand is high during the tourist season, particularly in the summer months. Therefore, planning and early booking of these items are even more important.
The baby seats provided by rental companies face forward, not "infant carriers" (a portable/ removable seat where the baby faces backward). If you have a small infant who uses an infant carrier, you'll need to bring it from your Country.
Important to Note - It's not possible to rent baby/child seats in one country and return them in another. These are specific to the station from which the seat was taken, so they cannot be returned at a different station.
Garbage bag
Keep a garbage bag handy inside the car along with some resealable plastic bags.
The garbage bag serves its purpose for waste disposal and can even double as an emergency vomit bag if needed. The other plastic bags come in handy for storing snacks, toys, and small gifts.
Additionally, consider stashing a compact first aid kit, tissues, and moist wipes in your glove compartment.
Avoid leaving lost toys scattered around the car
In the unfortunate event of an accident, loose toys can become projectiles, posing a danger to both your children and yourself. Be sure to secure any items in the trunk and within the vehicle to prevent them from shifting during the journey and potentially harming passengers.
Pack some snacks and beverages for the road
While it's advisable to take breaks during long trips for refreshments and stretching your legs, it's always reassuring to have some snacks and drinks on hand in case of unexpected delays on the road.
